SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply) Technology
SMPS are the most efficient way to energize ESPs, due to their small output ripple, extremely fast spark recovery and superior energy efficiency. Until now, however, most SMPS solutions used proprietary technology and have been subject to reliability problems. The largest problem with existing technology has been with cooling of the SMPS. Air cooling methods of other SMPS's has been problematic.
The ModuPower SMPS on the other hand, uses technology based on 30 years of experience in industrial air pollution control. Their modular, liquid cooled solution makes SMPS practical for the low MTBF requirements of power and industrial plants. Just as liquid cooling of standard T/R sets is used to protect and extend the life of components, the ModuPower liquid cooling provides the same advantages, but with an SMPS design.
In addition, the 'modular' part of the ModuPower offers built in redundancy by limiting the effect of single mode failures, unlike traditional T/R sets or SMPS supplies. By designing in a little extra capacity, you can 'ride through' a single mode failure till the next outage without a derate.
Operational Results
A recent installation of a 120kV/3000mA version of the ModuPower to replace a single 111kV/1000mA T/R set resulted in an increase of PM .2-2.0 collection of more than 95%
