Clam Shell Valves

Stock Clam Shell Valves (CSV) are used for simple load out systems where a fast-acting, open/ close valve is required to handle aggregate, sand, cement, and/or grain. With the proper actuators, safety devices, and controls, this valve will provide excellent service as a truck or railcar loading device.

Stock Clam Shell Valves are designed to open and close quickly and easily for control of materials such as sand, crushed rock, cement, or grain. These valves feature heavy-duty, leak-proof construction with all joints welded and ground smooth to prevent material build-up. Stock CSVs are an inexpensive alternative to enclosed rack and pinion valves for material load-out systems and material metering in the proper applications.

Stock CSVs are available in two configurations. The Simplex has a single gate, and the Duplex has a double gate. Square or rectangular inlet sizes are most common. Round inlet flanges are also available. There is no enclosed flange outlet.

The Simplex Clam Shell Valve has a single action undercut gate. It is designed to efficiently utilize the force from the actuator for proper gate function. Actuation is usually by air, with the cylinder ends mounted either on a valve body extension or the lower portion of the storage or load-out bin. This design is suitable for installation with existing equipment where tight horizontal clearances may be a factor.

The Duplex Clam Shell Valve utilizes an opposing gate which is linked through an external, segmented gear to the driven gate. The two gate halves close together for positive material shut-off without leakage. The overall height is less than the Simplex design, and the actuator stroke is also smaller. Where vertical height is limited, or operating time must be short, the Duplex CSV is recommended.

With either single or double valves, the closed gate overlaps the flow housing on all four sides for positive material shut-off. Materials of construction, sizes, and actuation permit the Stock CSV product line to cover a wide variety of applications.
